Q: At my appointment on Friday, your staff ran an HRV on me at my re-examination. I know we reviewed my results together, and I understood them then. My husband asked what an HRV is and why it’s so important after my appointment. I couldn’t explain it to him. Can you tell me again?
A: Basically, the HRV (Heart Rate Variability) assessment is a complete assessment of the health of your Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). The ANS is so important because it’s the part of your Nervous System that controls what you do without you having to think about it. It controls pulse, blood pressure, breathing, immune response, body temperature, digestion, and so on. As you can see, this is very important. If this system is healthy in your body (and the HRV will objectively show me how healthy it is), the chance of your body healing and you being symptom free is significantly increased. We like to run an HRV on all of our patients to make sure they are getting the most out of their health program. The HRV we use is called Nerve-Express. You can go to their website for more information. There is also a good video explaining HRV technology. Good question, hope this helps.
