Brain, Mood & Mental Health
A root-cause approach to brain fog, memory, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders
Mental and cognitive health are deeply rooted in physiology. Brain fog, anxiety, depression, OCD, and mood disorders are not simply psychological conditions. They are also biological ones, driven in large part by what is happening in the body at a nutritional, hormonal, and metabolic level. Addressing those underlying physiological factors is central to what we do.
We work with patients who are experiencing cognitive decline, persistent brain fog, memory issues, anxiety, depression, and other mood-related symptoms. We do not replace conventional mental health care, but we offer something that most practices cannot: a thorough investigation into the nutritional and physiological factors that are contributing to those symptoms and a personalized plan to address them.
Laura Sheehan leads the research in this area for our practice, staying at the leading edge of what functional medicine knows about the gut-brain axis, nutrient cofactors for neurotransmitter production, and the role of inflammation, blood sugar, and hormonal imbalances in the mental health space. That research directly informs how we test and what we look for in every patient.
Common Symptoms
- Brain fog: difficulty thinking clearly, word-finding problems, or mental fatigue
- Memory issues or a sense that your memory is not as sharp as it used to be
- Anxiety that feels physical: racing heart, tension, restlessness
- Depression or persistent low mood that doesn’t have an obvious cause
- OCD or intrusive thoughts that feel out of character
- Mood swings or emotional reactivity that seem disproportionate
- Difficulty concentrating or focusing for extended periods
- Sleep disruption tied to anxiety or racing thoughts
How we approach it
Our functional lab panel includes markers specifically relevant to brain and mood health, including thyroid function (one of the most commonly missed drivers of depression and anxiety), blood sugar regulation and insulin resistance, inflammation markers, nutrient status, including B vitamins, magnesium, and adrenal function. Nutrition Response Testing helps identify which areas of the body are under the most stress and what targeted nutritional support the nervous system needs. We work collaboratively with patients who are on medication. Our program is designed to complement, not replace, their existing care.
Is this program right for you?
This is a good fit for anyone who feels that their mental health symptoms have a physical component and who wants to explore what nutritional and physiological factors may be contributing, regardless of whether they are currently receiving other forms of care.
Join the patients who look forward to Thursdays
Every week, our practitioners send out a short, practical email covering what we are seeing in the office, what is working for our patients, and straightforward information about how to maintain and improve your health. No fluff. No selling. Just the kind of useful, honest health information our patients tell us they look forward to every week.
